A multifaceted network supports the Berlin science community and its various institutions. Involved in this network are the various administrative bodies of the State of Berlin and a number of foundations and associations, all of which share the goal of strengthening the national and global image of science in Berlin and its connection to business, politics and culture. Here we introduce you to a some of the leading members of Berlin’s science community.
be Berlin is the capital city marketing campaign responsible showcasing Berlin on a national and international level since 2008. The campaign focuses on Berlin as a great place to live and do business, as a leading location for science and as an exciting tourist destination. The campaign was launched by the Senate of Berlin and is carried out by Berlin Partner GmbH on behalf of the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit.
Berlin Tourismus & Kongress GmbH markets Berlin as a tourist destination worldwide on behalf of the State of Berlin. Among ist tasks is to provide support for business tourism, events, trade fairs and congresses.
In 2009, the State of Berlin created the Einstein Stiftung (Einstein Foundation), whose goal is to further promote leading research in the capital city. The foundation cooperates with a number of Berlin-based research institutes, in particular with the city’s four universities – the Freie Universität Berlin, the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, the Technische Universität Berlin and the Berlin University of the Arts. They also work together with the city’s four non-university research associations: the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the Helmholtz Association, the Leibniz Association and the Max Planck Society.
Berlin‘s Industrie- und Handelskammer (Chamber of Industry and Trade) provides comprehensive information to innovation-oriented companies. Members of the business community find key facts and figures on innovation policy, financing and funding opportunities, and up-to-date news on innovations from Berlin.
Berlin.de is the official Internet portal of the State of Berlin. The berlin.de editorial offices are found in the Press, Information and Media section of the Berlin State Chancellery. The web portal provides comprehensive information on all aspects of Berlin.
This Berlin senate department supports education and leading research in the capital. One highlight of their work is the master plan known as “Wissen schafft Berlins Zukunft!” (“Science Creates Berlin’s Future”), which supports the enhancement of university-level spots for students and strengthens leading research in the city.
This department is responsible for promoting business in Berlin and supporting Berlin-based companies. Its tasks include supporting innovation and strengthening cooperation among companies and science institutes.
The TSB Technologiestiftung Berlin is a private foundation that supports science and research in the capital. It also provides guidance in matters relating to the development of products and closer contact between science and business.
