How does electromobility change traffic patterns? Research into this topic is being performed by Professor Barbara Lenz, Head of the Institute for Transport Research at the German Aerospace Center (DLR). more

Electromobility entails fewer emissions, more environmentally friendly technology and independence from fossil fuels. And Germany has tremendous potential to become the market leader in the industry – with Berlin at the forefront. The goal is to get 100,000 electric vehicles on the road in the capital city in the next ten years.
No other city does as much for electromobility as Berlin. There are more eMobility case projects in the capital region than in all other German cities. A total of €80 million is being funneled into R&D and project work. The high concentration of university and non-university institutes in the field of traffic and mobility research is also unique in Germany. The city’s areas of expertise range from storage technology to new drive, vehicle, production and usage concepts. At the same time, Berlin-based science is working closely together with a wide range of companies active in the capital region, i.e. manufacturers, suppliers and engineering service providers.
A number of tests are taking place in Berlin and Potsdam as part of the “BeMobility” research project examining the integration of electric vehicles in public transport: Deutsche Bahn offers electric cars as part of its car-sharing program; automobile manufacturers are making electric test cars available to fleet, business and private customers.
If the theme of electromobility is to be advanced even further, science, industry and political bodies will have to act in concert. eMO, the Berlin Agency for Electromobility, networks the major players with one another and drives regional, national and international projects. eMO is a joint project organized by Berlin Partner GmbH, the TSB Innovation Agency Berlin GmbH and the State of Berlin. Partners including the State of Brandenburg and companies drawn from private industry and science.
